Yeah, Bartoli/Schiavone could last all day. I love that they're both such fighters.

Hard to say with Jankovic and Stosur. They can both dig in, and go for it, and they can both have complete mental collapses. Should be interesting, though, you're right.

I'm also curious about Stephens, and hoping she'll succeed.

I have not seen Erakovic play, but Sloane should prevail. The more I see of Sloane, the more I believe she will not reach the very top of the sport. This is too bad because I like her as a person. The best American after Serena is Hampton, in my opinion. She has fight and a great all court game.

AP, Sloane closes out the match at love 6-3 in the third set. She did a walkabout in the 2nd set, but was able to turn around. She will play the winner of Sharapova/Zheng in the R16.

Ms. Shriek better fix her serving issues before she encounters someone who will make her pay for her erratic serving.

Yikes is this play like a mess day for the WTA? Sharapova, Stephens and Vika get it together!

I disagree, I think Sloane has the potential to be in the top 5 and even win a slam or two. Her game needs to continue evolving, she needs to come into the court to finish point and she needs to better construct points. Her forehand is lethal when on and I love her inside-out shot. I also love Jamie Hampton. She constructs points and knows her way around the court. She will not crush anyone with power but she is a thinker on the court. I see her in the top 20 unless she is able to generate more power and work on her second serve. Love Vava, only wish she was a little younger.

RE: Roland Garros Order Of Play - Day 7

Both Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova vs Zhen Jie had problems in their matches. Vika solved them in 3 sets defeating A. Cornet 46, 63, 61
Maria still managed to win her match in straights trailing from a 41 down in the second set but still winning the match by defeating Zheng Jie 61, 75. Maria's serve let her down on several occasions especially in the second set and she made 8 DFs in total

F. Schiavone had a way easier match when she defeated Marion Bartoli in straights 62, 61. She'll meet Vika in the next round
Sloane Stephens defeated M. Erakovic 64, 67, 63 and she'll play M. Sharapova in R4
B. Mattek-Sands defeated P. Ormaechea 46, 61, 63 and her next opponent is either Maria Kirilenko or Stefanie Voegele

There are still some interesting matches left:
Jelena Jankovic vs. Samantha Stosur
Stefanie Voegele vs. Maria Kirilenko
Petra Kvitova vs. Jamie Hampton

Colleen, I hope you are right about Sloane. I think she lacks the killer instinct to win a major and her game is too defensive. No one can deny her athleticism trumps Hampton's, but Hampton has more fight and offensive playing style. A player needs both to win on the biggest stages.

Vika should be on high alert. Schiavone is gaining form and could send Vika packing.

The way Vika has been playing it is quite possible. Her serving has been off since she returned.

Has anyone else notice how Maria's shriek is now lower and more of a grunt and it's after she hit the ball, whereas the you could hear Azarenka's shriek on the court where Sloane was playing?

That's an excellent result for the US women at a major, especially this one.

I like Hampton better than all the up coming Americans, seems mentally stronger...the rest will be reaching maybe 4th rds for a long time. Its a surprise that Mattek is reaching 4th rd for the first time in her career at 29yrs..thats underachieving.
