This thread will track the rise of the American women (all ages) on the tour. I will insert a poll and you can vote on the player(s) with the most promise.

To start things in this thread, I will post the results from RG:
Bethanie, Jamie and Sloane into R16
Varvara into R3
Madison, Mallory, Shelby, Vania and Melanie into R2
Christina, Lauren and Coco out in R1
Taylor out in the QF of juniors

I haven't seen all of them play, but I have to say Sloane stands out for game and telegenics/star-quality. Bethanie and Jamie had some interesting results in RG. And we had a good number of US women in the 2nd week. There are positives to take-away from RG this year from US women.

Coco is the biggest disappointment...the rest will earn a living on tour with the exception of Madison and Townsend who will really shine in five yrs time...

Great poll, kskate2! :)

Bethanie did well at RG, but she's 28. I don't see her as the future, since she would have already been the future.

Sloane is the only one who has shown a genuine stand-out performance, so for now I'll go with her.

I keep hoping McHale with have a breakthrough, and get some traction, but it just doesn't seem to be happening. I'm not giving up on her, though.

I really like Jamie Hampton. She has a serious all-court game. She needs some more exposure and confidence but game-wise I believe she has the most promise. On raw talent and ability, I have to give the edge to Sloane and Madison. Both need a month w/ a sports psychologist to work out the kinks. I would like to see Madison get w/ Pat Echeberry or Gil Reyes and work on her fitness/endurance training.

I think the problem is none of the newer American men and women seem willing to work outside of the USTA and seek better coaching and fitness techniques. They don't seek out the great coaches and fitness trainers that will take their game to the next level. There is a huge level of complacency with the younger American players, and until that changes the US is going to be far behind the other countries.

AT THE MOMENT ITS LIKE A SORORITY,they all claim to be so in love with each other and seem to revel in their mediocrity.
Hampton is too old to be considered an up and coming at 24yrs..
Varvara will be 27yrs soon..
Keys has a future but she has boring energy..
Oudin is not doing much...
McHale has stagnated...
Sloane is also very boring..James Blake persona
Taylor Townsend to me has the best potential because she has lots of variety and a good serve,if only she can afford a good coach....this girl will go places.
Coco is a non-factor
Burdette can make a living on tour..

Keys and Townsend won't do anything until they get people on board that can take their game to the next level.

Jamie Hampton defeated 2 top players to get to her first WTA final in Eastbourne. Her all-cour game suits the grass very well. We'll see if she can pick up her first title on Sat.

I like Jamie, but she definitely has to improve upon her fitness, so she can position herself even better on court. If she slims down a touch and increases her stamina, I see no reason why she can't contend for a slam down the road.

I have not seen everyone play, but I voted for Hampton over Sloane who, in my opinion, is too defensive and mentally frail to do better than Hampton. We will get a sense of whether i am right at Wimby. Really looking forward to seeing Hampton win a few rounds.
