The term legend is bandied around too often... but not in this case. Bowie was a one-off and a pioneer. RIP.

I was so sad when I woke up this morning and learned about David Bowie's passing. He was such a prolific musician, visionary, an artist in every way. Here is a nice overview of Bowie's career, with a video of the newest track, Lazarus, that he released on his birthday, January 8th, 2016, just two days before his death. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/01/11/ziggy-to-blackstar-the-many-sides-to-david-bowie

There are so many great songs, this is just one of my favorite David Bowie tunes, an iconic one:

The Starman has taken his place in the firmament and I pray his soul rest in peace with the Almighty.  Like a phoenix he rose again and again from rock and roll to glam rock, from hs pioneering glam rock to blues/funkgospel infused American music, then to hard-edged Euro-rock/pop, to binging a visionary in anticipation of MTV with Ashes to Ashes and then on into pop art videos in the early Eighties.  Bowie was one cool, calculating customer--who (of the megastars)  but him would have thought to release that record over a decade ago via internet only and on his own?  He was one smart and creative pulse of energy.  His music was fantastic through and through.

Agreed. The master of re-invention.

...and a very smart businessman to boot.   Worth a cool $200-$250 mill according to reports.

But it wasn't always like that BB. When he was young he was overworked and exhausted without much to show for his efforts. I think John Lennon was the one who advised him how to take control of his finances.

Last night I again watched A&E's Live By Request with David Bowie from 2002, he was as charming as he was in Toronto in 2004, the last time he toured the world.
