About Doha:

Doha, capital of the peninsular Persian Gulf country Qatar, is a modern city on Doha Bay. Ringing its downtown waterfront are numerous parks and the Corniche Promenade. On a man-made island, the I.M. Pei–designed Museum of Islamic Art houses an extensive collection from across the Muslim world. At Souq Waqif, a traditional market, vendors offer goods like clothing, crafts and spices.

Thanks for the updates Billie. Some tough battles out there today. Caroline who has just dropped out of the Top 20 struggled to eek through against Qualifier Ana Konjuh.

Sara Errani had a bit of a hangover from winning over in Quatar before she pulled out the W.

Too bad for Andrea, she's been plagued with injuries. I thought Aga would have put up greater fight.

What a week for Carla Suárez Navarro!

She surprised a lot of people by taking this title. Came back from a set down yesterday after one of her best matches, blowing out Aga in the semis.

The champion addressing the faithful.

So pleased for Suarez Navarro to win in singles. She's 27, and I'm not sure why she's hasn't featured much in a while, but she really fought for that win. (And Ostapenko, at 18, probably showed her rookie side.) S-N and Errani also came runner-up to Chan/Chan in doubles. Nice day for Carla. She's said her goal for the year is top 5, and I believe this puts her at #6, already.

Congrats to Carla, love the way she rebounded after losing the first set in the final, well deserved title, seeing the other higher ranked seeds lost,I would also like to give a shout out to Jelena who is a promising young Latvian player, keep working hard Jelena!

Well I was soo wrong in picking Pliskova in the Dubai tournament she was a finalist last year, going out in the first rd,also in Doha.

I do not mind upsets, still the Top 10 ranked WTA players are not playing to their ranking as we have seen in Dubai and Doha.I will be interested to see when the tour goes to IW how they are responding, players like Halep who is the defending champion at IW,has had a 'horror start in 2016',Garbine is another player who is not playing well.

Nice to have you back @MargaretMcAleer . Hope you got chance to watch some tennis in Dubai. There seems to be a lot of surprise results on the tour - seems like the Top 30 are all chomping for a bit of the action. I was pretty surprised by Carla's win over Aga, not so much the result... but the manner in which she won it.

I don't know if you saw the Cibulkova/Sloane Stephens final in Acapulco but it was a barnstormer, lots of twists and turns, shifts in momentum... really good fight.
