The Tournament:

While the ATP first staged a tournament in Qatar in 1993, the Qatar Tennis Federation did not launch what is now known as the Qatar Total Open in Doha in 2001 as the popularity of women's sports was starting to take off in the country. Doha's ultra-modern Khalifa International Tennis Complex also hosted the season-ending WTA Championships from 2008 to 2010.

Qatar Total Open champions include WTA greats such as Justine Henin, Martina Hingis and Monica Seles, as well as two-time winners Victoria Azarenka, Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova. (Src: WTA)

About Doha

Doha, capital of the peninsular Persian Gulf country Qatar, is a modern city on Doha Bay. Ringing its downtown waterfront are numerous parks and the Corniche Promenade.

On a man-made island, the I.M. Pei designed Museum of Islamic Art houses an extensive collection from across the Muslim world. At Souq Waqif, a traditional market, vendors offer goods like clothing, crafts and spices.

Hope there is no rain this year ;) and I think it's a Premier 5 tournament this year with 900 points to the winner.

All the top players except Serena. I hope Woz is well rested and keeps the momentum going instead of falling apart like the others who have won majors. Looking forward to seeing Halep play well also.

No rain in Doha this week or so the weather forecast tells us - we can only hope the weather mess from last year won't repeat

You don't have stream? well here is the best - no adds. Press OK and scrollin the right side of the screen to the event you want to watch. It's a Saudi Arabian backdoor to a Russian betting site I discovered by accident a couple of years ago. It's sometimes down but appears again a couple of days later. Copy the link so you have it in your bookmarks:

Sharapova had a bad hairday - well she played lousy and good - but 11 df and 52 ufe! you can't win against a tricky player like the Romanian
