Another Middle east PREMIER tournament - this is a 5 - is coming up - here is a bit of info:

qtf-banners%5B16%5D.png

Tier: Premier Prize Money: $2,517,250 Surface: Hard Director: Saad Al Mohannadi
While the ATP first staged a tournament in Qatar in 1993, the Qatar Tennis Federation did not launch what is now known as the Qatar Total Open in Doha in 2001 as the popularity of women's sports was starting to take off in the country. Doha's ultra-modern Khalifa International Tennis Complex also hosted the season-ending WTA Championships from 2008 to 2010.

Qatar Total Open champions include WTA greats such as Justine Henin, Martina Hingis and Monica Seles, as well as two-time winners Victoria Azarenka, Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova.

The capital of Qatar, Doha is the country's cultural, commercial and financial center.

Draw with another hard draw for Caroline but if she wants to get away from her #22 ranking (Monday) she has to beat them all.

Thanks for posting Hoergren!

With the bad performance by seeds in Dubai, I give Caroline a very good chance to make it deep in this tourney.

I don't understand why Vika decided to skip Dubai and Doha. Playing in Mexico makes no sense.

Don't despair - not much makes sense right now - we'll have to deal with the realities and that is a new generation of players coming. Everyone can beat everyone on a good day so surprises will occur in Doha too. BUT that's what is fun with female tennis - nice girls, surprises and intriguing matches like the one we just saw between Garcia and Strycova.

I thought the same thing... Bad scheduling and I'm sure appearance fees were at play.

Klispova is playing terribly last few weeks. She might be joining her twin lower in the rankings if she doesn't get it together.

I see some battles tomorrow

Strycova might be feeling confident after her Dubai finalist berth, so Kvitova can't be asleep at the wheel

Jankovic might get thrown off my Niculescu's unconventional game

I can easily see Caro's match going three vs. Daria. Although Caro met Daria early in Dubai and routed her, I could see Daria having learned a thing or two about her game.

Let's see if the seeds stay true:clap

Petra needs a good coach. She might not stay in top ten otherwise. Or, perhaps she is not coachable.

I predict a semblance of order at IW when Serena, Pova, and Vika are playing.
It just looks bad for women's tennis when seeds can't get past unseeded players. It doesn't happen regularly on the men's side within the Top 10 players Therefore, it makes it seem like some of these women seeded players are over-hyped or are surface specialists.
