The Tournament:

WTA tennis returned to Hong Kong for the first time since 1993 with the inaugural Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open during the fall 2014 Asian swing.

"HKTA is working proactively to ensure that tennis is again one of the strongest and most popular sports in Hong Kong," said Michael Cheng, Chairman of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open Steering Committee and Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Tennis Association. "The hosting of a new WTA tournament and the return of elite professional tennis will have a positive impact at all levels of the sport and in the community. It will serve as an inspiration to young players looking to represent Hong Kong at the elite level." (Src: WTA)

World Number One Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams head the field.

About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is an autonomous territory, and former British colony, in southeastern China. Its vibrant, densely populated urban centre is a major port and global financial hub with a skyscraper-studded skyline. Central (the business district) features architectural landmarks like I.M. Pei’s Bank of China Tower. Hong Kong is also a major shopping destination, famed for bespoke tailors and Temple Street Night Market.
