Seriously, Ralph, no. It makes you look fat and old and blotchy. It's not a warriors colours. The short-shorts are fine, but the flourescent strip is redolent of Federer's garish Village People outfits at Wimbledon. Leave all the metrosexual stuff to him. Let a chunky WTA broad wear pink, and huff and grunt her way to odd-shaped infamy.
Why did Rafa lose? Simple. He wore pink. Close the thread now, mods, please.
But other than the pink, this was a good event for Rafa. Clearly finding his feet in all areas of the game, he did well in a couple of matches where he couldn't be exposed, and he rose to the occasion grandly in the third set against Berdy, without ever really knocking his old accomplice off his confidence. It would be a damning indictment of tennis if Rafa was to come back after so little tennis, and a couple injuries and surgery, and take his slam. It wouldn't say much for anybody else.
But it says a lot for Rafa that he fought so well in the second round, while playing dire and looking shifty in his fitness, and then won two more matches in straights. He's a warrior, regardless of the pink :cover , and areas of his game impressed, intermittently, but the whole can't be guaranteed at such short notice. The fear was always that as the quality of opposition improved, his shortcomings would be cruelly exposed, and there you had it today.
Take nothing for granted going forward! We can't say that once he's played a few events, he's a gimme for Paris or anywhere else. I was huge Borg fan, and I loved Mats. The end, when it comes, can sometimes not look like the end. But he can only do what he always does, which is work hard to find his form, play, compete, and dig deep. Stuff like the forehand, movement, all these things can come back over time. The bigger worry I have is his health. He can't afford 7 months off, out of every 20.
I'm glad he played Oz. Remember the rumours beforehand? He looked happy there, he gave us a bit of a run, and he always lights up the place. Tennis without Rafa is dull. Having said that, there's still an event going on. I don't mind who wins it but I'd prefer a new name on the silver mug:
Kyrgios....
