Other than #7 seed Christina McHale of USA, all other seeds advanced into second round.
First round is now completed.
As usual, I will post results when quarterfinals are completed.

I've seen Elina play in person, she has lots of finesse, extra if you ask me. She is into the quarters. Maddie too.

#6 seed Heather Watson lost today.

A couple of retirements in this tournament so far,sad to see, especially at the end of the season, though I guess all players are carrying niggling injuries at this time of the year

BTW the match between Sam and Jarmila was a tight match,Jarmila leads their h2h 2-0,she had to retire due to a sprained ankle early in the 2nd set.Bad luck Jarmila

I see one of my fav youngsters Elina and made the s/final,good to see.

BTW the reason Maddy retired, she had strapping on he right shoulder in the match, also had to take a MTO,while the trainer worked on it.

Tight first set from both players, though Sam turned her game around well to win the match

Bad luck Elina, your serve still needs attention,it has to be more consistent.Keep working hard

Stosur will be looking for her 3rd title at Osaka when she takes on rising star Diyas in the final.
Diyas will be competing for her first WTA title.Stosur hasnt dropped a set all tournament.Stosur will have too much experience for Diyas I feel at this stage.

Stosur to win her 3rd title at Osaka.

Zarina is broken in the 10 game, holds in the 12th and now we have a tie breaker to decide the first set.
