In the $100,000 ITF event in Vancouver, the Odlum Brown Open, Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia won the final today in a thrilling 3 setter, beating Lesia Tsurenko of the Ukraine, 3-6. 6-2, 7-6(3). Gajdosoava was down 3-5 in the final set, and it the semi she was down 2-5 in the third set against Madison Brengle and came back and won 5 straight games.
Gajdosova is a former top 25 player, Tsurenko, who I had a brief chat with around noontime was as high as 60th. She made her own way from Kiev, and drew a great deal of support from the crowd. You can see my pic of Jarmila on the Tennis Frontier Goggle Page. It was very hot during the weekend, and down at court side it certainly felt around 32 celcius, 90 Fahrenheit, when I was clicking away taking pics.
I was really impressed by the play of American Asia Muhammad, very tall and with some good movement and power. She lost to Lesia in the other semi, 4-6, 3-6. She came in ranked 363rd and beat Ula Radwanska, the number 4 seed in the first round.

This Jarmilla had a husband at one time who was also her coach. They used to bicker at
each other during the matches and it was unbearable. Fortunately, they got divorced.
Was it Sam Groth?

Yes GameSetAndMath, you are absolutely right it was Sam Groth. The testy marriage lasted only two years from 2009-2011. Undoubtedly, Jarmila is far better off being single again!

Rubydo!
You must take some pictures and email them to Moxie, we've all been doing it!
Moxie is swimming in pix! Just look at the front page.
;)

Also, if you interview Vera, ask her plans for 2014 US open.

Vera withdrew from Vancouver Kiu, due to being injured prior to the event, playing WTT. Have taken lots of pics at the tournament that concluded this Sunday. Just been snowed under with writing my column for our paper and my Google Tennis page. However, I have a number of photos I will forward to Moxie in the next few days, once I have worked on them, Asia Mohammad being one of them, along with pics from Eastbourne that I have in the bank, Pennetta, Giorgi (which I am sure you will enjoy!!) and others.
