What No1e's schedule should look like in 2016? I don't know if he reached the stage in which he can chose only handful of tournaments o play, but if he can, I'd like to see him playing only Slams, Cincy and WTF.

This may surprise some, because in past I always wanted No1e play Davis Cup, but Troicki stinks recently and no one sees the end of Tipsarevic's recovering, I don't think Lajovic and Krajinovic are good enough to win DC, so I don't see the point of No1e playing it.

Olympic Games I always considered Mickey Mouse competition for superpowers, games that were largely about politics (we all know who 1976 decathlon winner was, but what is the chance that someone knows the last one?) as well as which country has better doping program.

Masters tournaments? Nole has so many masters titles but he is missing Cincy, so he should focus on winning this.

Other than Cincy, all I want him to play are slams and wtf.

The exemptions are based on the following:

A player’s number of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 commitment tournaments shall be reduced by one (1) tournament for reaching each of the following milestones:

1) 600 matches* (as of 1 January of the commitment year);
2) 12 years of service;
3) 31 years of age (as of 1 January of the commitment year).

If all three (3) conditions are met then the player has a complete exemption.

Novak has over 600 matches, so he can elect to miss one mandatory tournament. I think Novak has 11 years service, so he won't qualify for the second exemption and it is too young to qualify for the third.

The mandatory tournaments (without exemptions applied) are:

The majors, The 1000 Series Masters, Four 500 Series Tournaments and the WTF (if the player qualifies).

lol

Novak needs to play some events to get in the necessary practice. I surely hope he plays MC and Rome, my two favorites. The HC events in the States before seem pretty relaxing and enjoyable, nothing to be lost there. Then he needs to play Montreal to get the necessary practice for Cincy and the US Open. All in all, I think his schedule is set. Also, these tourney's help keep the no 1 ranking, even if not entirely necessary if he has another season like this year.

He can only skip 1 Masters 1000 event still.  It will be tough next year because the Olympic games are happening during summer (when 2 masters and USO are the main focus).  It will be interesting to see how he schedules this period.   He will participate in singles and doubles in Rio so he might miss Toronto maybe.  I wouldn't like it just because I would miss seeing him live, but whatever he decides is best, I won't question it.

Nole cancels his IPTL participation, he won't play Mubadala exhibition either and will start training on December 20th with Vajda in Monaco.  He cites exhaustion for pulling out of IPTL.  Frankly I am happy about it, I think it is a smart move. :good:

That's smart.  I don't know why anyone is playing that stupid IPTL.

What I don't know is how they get so many sponsors to pay for these top players and past legends to play in such big numbers. :scratch:

And I heard that Wawrinka is going to replace Nole which means that he and Kyrgios will be playing in the same team. :)

EDIT: I searched online and found the confirmation, both Andy and Stan will join Singapore Slammers

IPTL is a needless addition to the calendar.  Any of the top players playing there forfeit the right to moan about the gruelling season.

^I don't know, as they surely do not train for it, and don't need to give an 100% effort... I mean, this is really easy money for them.

I have to say, I can see a benefit for Rafa playing, this year.  He's said himself that he doesn't "deserve a vacation" right now.  The format is one set, which forces him to be aggressive, and not dig in for the longer view on a match.  And it's pretty low commitment and not really pressured.  I can see the point for Serena, as well.  They do look like they're having fun.

not sure if this is the right place for this, but thought you might like to read this… http://www.masslive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/12/lets_give_djokovic_some_love_g.html?
This is the enduring theme of Djokovic articles, not to mention of his fans...that he doesn't get enough love.  (See also The New York Times and The New Yorker.)  That's fair enough, but it's also easily explainable.  It's not really him.  He seems a decent enough guy, and he's spectacularly talented. But the tennis world divided up into Federer and Nadal a long time ago.  There was simply only so much fan-space available.  And in the jockeying for records and posterity, there is only so much generosity of spirit amongst the fans.  He came up in the wrong time.  Talk to Andy Murray about that.

I don't expect him to have a season like 2015, but hopefully he can do some damage at slams.  And I don't know why but he really wants to do well at the Olympic games.  I don't know how the 2 summer NA masters in Toronto and Cinci will fit into all that.   But I guess one tournament at a time, first one to worry about is AO.  My main concern as always is for him to remain healthy.

He will almost certainly do a lot of damage at the Slams.  The question is how much, and who stops him?  As to the other, it's not a mystery why he wants to win a Gold Medal.  He outright stated it as a goal in 2012.
