The more I thought about it, each dominates the tour, and top players on the ATP who did great in previous rounds (e.g., Murray, Tsonga, Nadal, etc.) get beaten in routine fashion by Novak. Same thing with Serena and Sharapova, Kvitova, Halep, etc. Their styles are very different but each has been on a perch vis-a-vis their competitors.

Could not DISAGREE any more. Literally one of the craziest things I have sen here.

Novak does NOT:

-have major meltdowns on court

-lose interest in the sport

-weigh 30lbs more than when he began his career

He is NOT a drama king

Try again.

I guess there were some similarities this year, in that they were both going for the Slam togthen until Stan happened. And their slam results ended up the same. Their lock on the No. 1 ranking is the same as well. But that's pretty much where the similarities end. Djokovic did way better than Serena in the Masters than Serena did in the Premier M5s. And Serena had to shut down her season while Djokovic is getting hotter than ever. And next year maybe one Slam for Serena maybe, while Djokovic will be going for the Slam again.

That's all the comparisons I see of the two.

Obviously, he wasn't comparing these aspects... :dodgy:

I think there is something to be said in that if you are not a Novak fan his, dominance is effecient and not interesting, which I would say the same about Serena.

I think the main difference in their dominance is that Novak is usually more reliable in earlier rounds and against players outside of the Top 10, but regularly has to work hard to beat other Top 5 players, Serena potentially might struggle early on and against a bigger number of players but often dominates the Top 10 players she meets from Quarterfinals onwards.

So in my opinion Serena close to her best is further ahead of anyone else than Novak is, but he is significantly less shaky when playing below average by their standards.

I totally understand many of the points made by fellow posters. I guess I was speaking more narrowly focused on what they both (Novak and Serena) do to their supposed rivals, i.e., crush them, in the last couple of rounds.

Novak's been the only one doing that! Even though Serena's won a lot, it was a wonder she even made it to finals; stumbling, bumbling, and dropping sets to kids I'd never heard of before! Nole's had his trials, but he's the most conditioned tennis player since Lendl! He's a machine, totally professional, and flies under the radar! You can't say that about Serena who has universal acceptance and affection no matter how she behaves on court! She has high profile relationships and has had running feuds with rivals! If I were Nole, I'd be insulted in being compared to such a person! :nono :cover :p :ras:

Are we talking about the same Serena? Because I would never have described her as having universal acceptance and affection no matter what.

Did Nole go out with Mouratoglou and Drake ? If so, he's the ATP's Serena !!
