It's a bad thing.
I don't think Nadal needs a wake up call... He's had plenty in the last year to ponder.
Clay is an equalizer for Rafa in many respects but I don't think it's necessarily going to be Oasis for him this year.

There is no way this could be good. Â Realistically Nadal needs to win a slam this year or it is unlikely he ever gets any great form back. Â The confidence only takes a bigger beating and he is only getting older. Â Coming into the year I thought if Rafa didn't win a slam in the 1st half of the year (AO and RG) it's probably not happening at Wimbledon or USO. Â This year RG is shaping up to be a last hope of sorts for Rafa.

His fans I think got used to the fact that he is declining, so this is not such a shocker anymore either.
As far as his chances going forward, he is still a contender, but not a favorite in the bigger events.

I wouldn't take that too seriously.....Patrick is like his brother in just going with the wind and talking up the latest match as if it is a total indicator of everything that is to come. Don't forget that during the 2014 Australian Open, Patrick McEnroe was leading the charge for saying that Nadal would surpass Federer's Slam record. Now he is among the first to say Nadal is done. McEnroe should worry more about why the U.S. players he coaches are so terrible instead of uttering extreme emotional statements in the moment.
