Earlier today I was reading Tignor's piece on the wonderful Verdasco victory and I came across this gem from Nadal in analyzing his loss:

“Everybody now tries to hit all the balls. There is no balls that you can prepare the point, no? Everybody hit the ball hard and try to go for winners in any position. Game become a little bit more crazy in this aspect.”

Okay, sure Rafa. Were you saying that 7 years ago when Verdasco hit 94 winners on you instead of 91 yesterday?

How is it that the game is passing you by when Verdasco is 3 years older than you?

This reminds me of how Nalbandian blamed losses late in his career to Raonic at Madrid and Janowicz in Indian Wells on the "power" of the younger players. I found that to be utterly pathetic. I watched both matches and Nalbandian lost each for the same reasons that he always lost matches. It had nothing to do with age, but with his horrendous first-serve percentage and double fault mania that was always a problem.

Where did he say anything about age? Do you have a link?
