Uncle Toni Nadal has decided that after this season he will devote his time to the Rafa Nadal academy in Manacor.

Francisco Roig and Carlos Moya will continue to handle coaching duties with Rafa.

Sad news to lose an iconic figure's participation in the top echelon of the sport, but now he can help teach more youngsters and give the benefit of his wisdom to new generations of players.

It just won't seem the same without hearing Toni Nadal's "Vamos" and other encouragement from the coach's box.

How much will Toni be missed?

Best of luck to him.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Yep, I've read about it and I think it's a very good movement. I've never thought that to have two coaches is a very good idea for anyone :good:

You had me with the headline @masterclass...B-) I was like... seriously??

Still, it's a pretty big development in the Rafa camp. I'm guessing this was planned before Moya joined camp and this is the transition

The timing seems right. The Academy is up and running and could likely use a strong coach, and Rafa doesn't really need him anymore. And Toni will probably be happy to be home and off the road. End of an era, though.

Gee a end of a era without Toni in Rafa's box next year.Toni has served Rafa well, his results are a testament to that fact.Toni has young children, now he can spend more time with them, close to home, his overall experience at Rafa's tennis academy is to fold.

I always thought it was kind of hilarious that all the announcers and commentators over the years referred to him as "Uncle Tony"..It was almost like a title..and he was our uncle was well. Coaches these days are becoming more and more important to the elite players of the sport. It will be strange not seeing him in the box when Nadal plays.
