Ya, that could prove to be a tough match. On the other hand given that he has been playing all week long, he may not be fresh.

Thiem is a thorn in the path of JMDP too, as they meet in first round.

I was thinking that Roger will be able to handle a dilapidated Rafa in two sets in Basel. But, that was not the case. He needed three sets and the match was somewhat close too.

Now, that Rafa is rejuvenated and that Roger is coming back from Surgery, the QF sure does not look promising for Roger. However, if Roger can beat Rafa at Madrid (which he has done before), I would think Roger's RG odds would improve considerably.

For all we know, that QF could be Goffin vs. Thiem. :p

Unlike 2009 when Rafa and Novak fought for 3 hours the day before Rafa faced a well rested Roger, I would say this year's battle if it occurs would heavily favor a rejuvenated Nadal.

Don't make the rest of us laugh. If he's able to play 6 hour matches, he's perfectly fine after 3 hours, trust me. I'd still favour Nadal over Federer anyway given Federer is rustier than a bucket of 50 year old nails having played so little last few months.

two possibilities the 6 match is the final between Rafa vs Djokovic at the AO 2013 final or
the 5-6 hour match you keep referencing occurs a day and a half before he played Federer at AO in 2009. When Rafa battled against Djokovic for more than 3 hours on the cement with red brick dust he played the next day against Federer in 2009 at Madrid final. Big difference Pal

I don't think Roger can go too far, he doesn't know even if he will play in Roma.

No there's not a big difference. Novak and Nadal have been doing this for a long time now with their speedy recovery. Nadal has played plenty of 3 set matches that went around 3 hours and played fine again the next day. You're excuse making now simply 'cos he lost to Federer and no other reason.

100% he'll play. He's defending 600 points and would be a lunatic to skip it and he's not a lunatic. Murray defends 1000 points at Madrid and Federer defends 600 at Rome so there's a lot riding on these 2 next tournaments. There's no chance Federer will skip Rome. Not like he's tired as he's barely played in months and needs the practice.

Front , I saw the matches , yes Roger won the matches but Rafa was clearly jaded Robbie K and Jason goodall both have stated it numerous times, Google that match and review the press conference, however Roger clearly was the winner

Ever do a really hard leg session in the gym where you can barely walk for days afterwards? Well Nadal and Verdasco went hell for leather in the peak heat of Melbourne for 5 hours and then he came back fresh as a daisy shortly afterwards showing no signs of fatigue whatsoever and played another 5 set match in the final so don't tell me his legs were tired from playing a 3 hour match please 'cos they weren't.

Front at AO Rafa played Verdasco on a Friday and played Fed on a Sunday that's almost two days to recover, in Madrid the matches with Djokovic played late on a Saturday and the final vs Fed was early Sunday, big difference Pal

That AO match against Verdasco has been one of the best match I've seen for long time

Was it not 4 hours? With another hour of toilet breaks? :snicker:snicker

You left out the part where they both wander around at the back of the court for 50 seconds between points while recovering from 45 shot rallies. That'll easily stretch the match to 4 hours. If they make the finals - Is anybody going to be taking bets on whether either of them will get a time violation warning?

I just saw the draw and could only laugh. How it is I knew that Nadal would end up in Roger's quarter in Madrid? In Monte Carlo the #5 seed was in the same quarter as the #4 seed. And of course they're both in Murray's half of the draw so that no matter which one of them wins, if they get past Murray, they'll probably play Djokovic in the final. Therefore the tourney is set up with 3 of the "big 4" in one half of the draw and Djokovic in the other which creates the optimal finals possibilities - Djokovic\Murray, Djokovic\Federer, or Djokovic\Nadal. Yeah, yeah, it's a "random draw". Right. I guess they're counting on Stan taking another tournament off and not beating Djokovic. Whatever...could prove to be a total snoozefest with Nadal digging for gold and Djokovic restraining himself from lapsing into his old ball bouncing habit to give himself time to recover between rallies.

Roger should save himself for Rome where he's got 600 points to defend and just get in some practice. Too bad HE doesn't think that way. :laydownlaughing He'll play to win like always regardless of my sensible advice. :lolz:
