It's Big 3 not the Big 4.
Traditionally it's always been like that;
"the BIG 4" going back to the beginning of the
Open Era! Even if it meant bringing a
scrub on deck to
even the count; a symbolic SF draw could be imagined! In my day it was all about Connors, Borg, McEnroe, with a qualifying 4th wheel! Vitas Gerulaitis was elevated even though owned by the Big 3 at the time! His record was dismal against all the top players; never beating Borg, and not much else off the others! Gerulaitis was a nice, solid player for the most part with his only real weapon his court speed and being buds with the others!
Vilas was a lot more gifted with weapons testing the others sometimes, but couldn't sustain it for various reasons! Later the top 4 seemed to come from the US with Sampras, Agassi, Courier, & Chang, but was usually broken up with Edberg, Becker, Rafter, Kafelnikov, etc.! Murray's probably done more as a 4th WHEEL even though I can't stand the guy! He won his share of Masters & a few majors, ascended to #1 for a brief few minutes, and had
some success against the Top 3! He's probably been the best to
just make the so called
"Big 4," getting more out of it than past players in his position! :whistle:
