This from Bleacher Report. I wonder if you agree, and note that most of their picks are kind of "oldsters"

How in the world is there no mention of Gulbis?

Well, I was saying that I thought the B/R list was fallible. And I tried to think of people to add to the poll. Didn't think of Gulbis. But now you mentioned him...make your case! :)

Blake, Davydenko, Lopez, Verdasco... what are they ranked? Robin Soderling has not even made it back to playing on tour, has he?

I agree with cali that Gulbis should have been mentioned.

Berdych is still aggressive but is more thoughtful about picking and choosing his moments.

Janowicz belongs in the mix and he is always looking for opportunities to go on offense. I would say it's between he and Gulbis.

That's why I brought the list over...I thought it was a bit "old-school," and I thought we could do better. And it also made me wonder if there aren't any younger guys with an aggressive game. So we have Gulbis and Janowicz in the mix, and we're dumping Soderling and Blake, at least.

Yes, Gulbis definitely needs to be in there. Any guy brave enough to hit basically two first serves has to be considered one of the most aggressive players on tour and his whole game is just pure aggression.

I wouldn't go that far. I actually don't think he is as aggressive as he should be a lot of the time.

I don't think Monfils should be on that list.

I took him off, and I added Gulbis. This software is genius! :)

I know the point is not to discuss the article itself, but Berdych at #1? Really? He hits huge, and is aggressive, but he's actually patient before unleashing the trigger in rallies, and truth be told, rarely goes for low percentage shots.

I think it's between Tsonga and Gulbis, though you might as well use the word "erratic" too. I don't feel Wawrinka belongs in the discussion, as despite hitting huge, he's not always especially aggressive.

Actually, the main reason I brought it in was to ask the question: Is there ANYONE out there that still has a legitimately aggressive game. I thought the B/R list was so lame and out-dated, it made me wonder who there actually was to make a better list.

Maybe its only me but what is Smart about being aggressive if you are not winnng. Blake , Gonzo and Safin were all agressive type of players. If you just look at those 3 players careers which span aleast 30 years all totalled. That is only 2 GS titles, 3 GS finals and 1 number ranking.

I wrote this first
Raonic is probably the most agressive player of today because of his 1 and 2nd serve.

I thought about it later , it truly is Tsonga. I think that what the poster says below is very true.

'Tsonga has the most aggressive game of all active players. His shot making screams an end-the-point-now intent, from groundstrokes to the volleys to the dropshots to the serve/return. he isn't that patient and often does not take on a defensive position until forced to do so. "

To me, Tsonga has the most aggressive game of all active players. His shot making screams an end-the-point-now intent, from groundstrokes to the volleys to the dropshots to the serve/return. he isn't that patient and often does not take on a defensive position until forced to do so. Gulbis is much like tsonga in this regard but, well, i haven't been able to see him play often to say anything from my POV.

Davydenko is aggressive, but I don't think he fits the stereotypical aggressive player. I would much like to think, although he has the ability, the power he injects to that aggression depends more on the opponents power than his own. aggressive counterpuncher i guess as opposed to the monfils/simon types.

Llorda on the other hand, i think is aggressive because he is fairly lacking in the defense department, which gives him no choice. add to that the old-school serve and volley tactic and viola.

berdych has very strong groundstrokes, which imo, is not automatically an indication of an aggressive game (see delpotro), plus he is lacking on all other aspects beside serve/return and grounstrokes such as netplay and [aggressive] touch to see him as trully aggressive. This may come off as unfair but i actually think he's a ballbasher which is undeniably aggressive, but it's just because of his easy power, not exactly because of an aggressive mentality.

Which brings me to this question, is being a ballbasher/power baseliner the very definition of an aggressive game? if so, we really have very few in the men's game.

And also, shouldn't Wawrinka be there?

Other aggressive players include: Fish, Querrey, Llodra (always exciting to watch imo as he's one of the very few old school S&V players left and has great net skills), Del Potro, Rosol, Stepanek, Benneteau and I'm sure plenty of others. Djokovic and Nalbandian get honorable mentions as aggressive baseliners but not among the most aggressive players on tour as listed above, just when the opportunity presents itself.

Blake and Gonzo are perfect examples of aggressive games which ultimately don't bring the glory. Of the more current generation, Ryan Harrison falls into this category. More than any of the other young guys, he's the one who's constantly looking to hit a winner.

I initially thought of him, too, but Moxie will call us old school for mentioning him. ;)

Yeah, they're two of the most patiently impatient guys out there.

LOL! Stepanek is a good mention...but proving how some of the most aggressive ones are aging out.

Did anyone mention Janowicz? He seems to like an aggressive game, though he's undisciplined.

I often wonder, if Darthfed and El Dude got to see me killing it with my 1HBH; would they be my fans? I'm getting better!

Yeah, as I looked over their list, I just kept thinking, "Is this the best you can do? Why did you even bother making a list?" But they do seem to be aging out: Gonzo, Blake, Stepanek, Soderling (retired), Davydenko, etc.

I guess at a stretch you could put Isner and Karlovic (soon to be retired?) on the list, since their serves are constantly putting their opponents under pressure.

I play 1HBH too but it's not like I am only a fan of players with 1HBH or that it even factors in. Obviously backhands like Nole, Murray and Agassi are/were levels better than Fed's 1HBH.
