Unlike other GSs, even the mixed doubles is a serious business at Wimbledon. They have 48 pair draw
with top 16 seeds getting a bye in the first round (compared to 32 pair draw in other GSs). Also, a much more serious format compared to other GSs. No super tie breaks here. They play three full sets. Also, no tie breaker in the last set just like in other events. The draw came out today. Here are some interesting pairs.

1. Hingis and J. Murray. (#1 seed)
2. Mirza and Dodig (#4 seed)
3. Vesnina and Soares (#2 seed)
4. Makarova and Mirnyi (#12 seed)
5. Keys and Jock
6. Azrenka and Zimonjic (plays the above team in R1)
7. H. Watson and Kontinen (defending champion)

The ever opportunistic Martina dumped Leander (as he is sliding down) and hooked up with Jamie who is hot right now.

Did Hingis enter the Ladies doubles?

Yes, of course. She has dumped Mirza long ago and is trying with various partners. She is playing with a Taipei girl by name Chan and is seeded #3 here (and has already won their first match in a dominating fashion).

Forgot to include the brother-sister combo; the Broadys, Liam and Naomi in the interesting pairs.

Also, Watson plays Azrenka in the singles tomorrow and then she also will be facing Azrenka in the opener in the mixed doubles as well.

p.s. Typo in OP. Change "above" to "below".

The defending champions Heather and Kontinen won their opening match against Vika and Zimonjic.

Also, the brother/sister combo Broadys won their first match.

With Jamie being upset in the Men's Doubles, he should be totally fresh and willing to work hard for Hingis to give her another title! Funny, I'm not sure who's won more titles than her after retiring twice? She's won more in the last couple years than other players in their entire careers! I wonder why she isn't being talked about more? She truly is special and has been since turning pro at 14 back in '94 along with Venus just before the new rules were to take affect dealing with children playing on the tour! :nono:

Dodig and Mirza to clash with defending champions Heather and Kontinen in the next round (R16).

Martina is also upset in ladies doubles. So, both of them are now free to focus on mixed doubles in which they have already reached quarterfinals and have fairly easy next two matches.

Defending champions Kontinen and Watson won a match against formidable pair of Mirza and Dodig and thus reach QF. But, they do have three tough matches in a row if they want to retain the title (Boppanna & Dabrowski, a recent slam winners, followed by Vesnina and Soares, the #2 seeds, followed by Martina and Murray). Chances are high that they will not be able to defend it.

Murray & Hingis win one more match and are in SF now. They have an easy SF and a tough F independent of whoever gets there (as every pair left in the other half is tough).

The unseeded defending champions Heather & Kontinen win a tough 3-setter against Bopanna and Dabrowski. They are now into SF. In SF, they face #2 seed Vesnina and Soares. In F (if they make it), are likely to face #1 seed M & M.

Even though both Andy and Konta lost, there will be a British Grand Slam Champion this year.

This is because the finals in the mixed doubles is between Martina Hingis & Jamie Murray and Heather Watson & Henri Kontinen.

No matter who wins, there will be a British GS Champion.

Any predictions? I'm leaning toward Hingis and Murray in straight sets.

Congrats to M&M on MD title.

This is Martina's sixth GS MD title. She won one with Mahesh Bhupathi, four with Leander Paes and one with Jamie Murray.

This is her 23rd GS ( 5 singles + 12 WD + 6 MD).

I think it was a bad move by her to dump Sania Mirza. They were actually winning almost every tourney they played in. After just
a few losses, instead of persevering, they called it off. After dumping Sania, she has not a WD GS even once, despite trying with multiple different partners. I don't know the circumstances behind dumping. However, I vaguely remember some other poster mentioning that it was because they did not get along off the court. If anyone has details or inside juicy stories, let me know.
