Rafel Nadal and Marc Lopez continued their fine run in the Men’s Olympic doubles event with a convincing straight set victory over Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya of Austria 6-3 6-1.

Lopez won the 2016 Wimbledon doubles alongside his namesake Feliciano Lopez (no relation) and the pair will be tough to beat heading into the Semi Finals.

Daniel Nestor seeking a second medal, sixteen years after his first

Canadian Doubles veteran Daniel Nestor kept his hopes alive of a medal when he and partner Vasek Pospisil defeated the Italian duo Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi 6-3 6-1.

Nestor won an Olympic gold in the doubles sixteen years ago at the Sydney. That gold medal (paired with Sébastien Lareau) was the first and only medal so far in tennis for Canada to date.

Johnson and Sock keep American hopes alive

American hopes were kept alive when Steve Johnson and Jack Sock surprised Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut and David Ferrer 6-3 6-1.

Mergea and Tecau are the highest seeds remaining
The fifth seeds, Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau of Romania surprised local Brazilian pairing of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares 6-4 5-7 6-2. As fifth seeds, they are the highest ranked pairing left in the competition.
