I am not a great Maria Sharapova fan, however, she did something very thoughtful for her Canadian fans that will not be able to see her play in the Rogers Cup.
She has setup a draw for a couple of people to spend a day with her in California, play a little tennis and have a evening with her as well. I think this is a very kind gesture indeed and has given me a different view of her. She does have a warm streak in her soul!
Good on you Maria! As some of you know I write a tennis column in our paper and send stories to an online network. I think I am the only reporter that takes time to send you guys information on what it is like to cover a major tournament, plus taking pictures, and I enjoy doing that, when I have a chance.
You might remember that I interviewed Maria Kirilenko in Eastbourne and my story that appeared in our paper on Vancouver Island has been used in part by the WTA site! It is in the fact, the first story I have forwarded to the WTA.
Came out on July 24 with the title Kirilenko Set For Summer Schedule. The quotes are from my interview with Maria. Take a look if you have a chance it reads well.
Back to Vancouver to cover the Odlum Brown ITF semi finals and finals this weekend.
