"At the end of the day, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what we do on the court, I just think she should be talking about her accomplishments, her achievements, rather than everything else, that's just getting attention & controversy. If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship & her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce & has kids"

This all sparked from the alleged phone conversation that Serena was having in her rolling stone interview with Venus, in which she said

"There are people who live, breathe and dress tennis. I mean, seriously, give it a rest.” Serena exits the car and the conversation moves on to a top-five player who is now in love. “She begins every interview with ‘I’m so happy. I’m so lucky’ – it’s so boring,” says Serena in a loud voice. “She’s still not going to be invited to the cool parties. And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.” (An educated guess is she’s talking about Sharapova, who is now dating Grigor Dimitrov, one of Serena’s rumored exes.)

Now, this was very bad PR from Maria, as there is nothing to suggest that Serena was even talking about her, as Serena didn't mention any names and Sharapova does not start interviews the way Serena suggested. Any way Dramaaaaaaaaaaaa... thoughts?

Well again this is what happens when you run your mouth others come for you. I have to say I give Maria her props for having a nasty retort to offer back at Serena. Hopefully, we get a nice little barn burner match as a result of this nastiness.

I agree, Serena is to old to be taking cuts at player's, and I don't knock Maria for her comeback, if it's about her. But, if they meet in the final, expect the mother of all beat downs.

I only expect beat downs at this point, but yeah, this could be extra special.

The bottom line is Maria actually had some pretty sound advice in that retort. Talk about yourself and not others.

The problem for Maria is, Serena never stated it was about Maria. The writer wrote that he assumed it was Maria, and other journalist stated to her, Maria, that it's reportedly about her.

Vika has a new boyfriend now too. Who knows who she is referring to. It all seems really silly to me to air all this dirty laundry in the press.

Did Serena actually say she was talking about Maria? The writer admitted that he did not know, he "guessed" and used process of elimination and "figured". Really? Has news reporting come down to guessing and figuring? Are people to be now attacked based on what others have guessed?

And in offering this advice, she spoke about someone's marriage, wife and even included the kids. Great advice, maybe she should follow it. Her retort was based on information that might even be about her. Contrary to what she believes, sometimes not all new revolves around her, lol.

Well, it could only have been 1 of 4 women and the Rolling Stones journalist isn't the only one that seemed to believe it was Maria that Serena was talking about. Every tennis journalist I follow on twitter was absolutely convinced it was Maria. I have to say that in the interview Serena sounded like a jealous teenage girl. It's hard to believe that she's a woman in her 30s.

All this is done to deter Serena from winning or equaling some records. Maria is not important in the scheme of things because she cannot beat Serena, she is coming off as a very bitter Betty.I think Serena was set up and she didnt have the sense to know that she is being set up.
The best revenge is to win Wimbledon without dropping a set...and she will, sorry pova you will coninue to be schooled:snigger

My point being maybe Serena might take it to heart when the shoe is on the other foot and Maria throws Serena's business out there in an unpleasant manner. It isn't pretty what either woman said. They both come off as pretty obnoxious.

From what I have read, the article was written in March, I don't believe that Maria and her boyfriend were dating at the time. Is it possible, that while Serena was on the phone, and the reporter only hearing one side of a conversation, just might have assumed and "guessed" incorrectly? When you are on the phone with a friend, sister etc. you can be silly, immature, "obnoxious" etc, it's allowed. The only difference between us and Serena is that there are no reporters around us when we are talking on the phone. :)

No, it's not right what either did, but Maria is out of line, period. You don't bring someones kids into this situation. And find me where Serena confirmed she was ever dating Patrick, so this, too, is speculation. Find me where Serena said Maria's name in any of that interview. Maria took the bait, and it was pretty sad, her comments. Also this interview was three months ago, were Grigor and Maria even an item then?

That is still how she came across. She's not a young girl and neither is Venus. Why should either of them care about the personal relationship another player is in? Yes, it may have been a private telephone conversation with her sister but it was conducted when a journalist was in the room. Just how naive is Serena?

HELLO.....ever heard of the Sloane Stephens incident?

Also, she NEVER mentioned anyone's name, and it was a conversation she was having on the phone with her sister and the journalist overheard the conversation.

The Sloane Stephens incident just highlights and seems to prove Sloane's point that Serena is a catty b!tch with this Rollingstone article highlighting her point.

What Serena meant by calling Sharapova's boyfriend's heart black?
