Just a class-act, our Swiss Maestro.

It is a nine-minute ESPN video, by the way, from just after his 3R defeat of Santiago Giraldo. He talks about Serena, age and motivation, working with Edberg, other players, etc. A good watch (both the video and the Rolex he's wearing, a blue dial Daytona, if I'm not mistaken).

Anyhow, listening to him talk makes me think he'll be around for awhile yet. He seems to have found a late career groove. I would be surprised if he dropped off substantially for another year or two, and we can hope that he might even have it in him to play past the 2016 Olympics, but you never know. Things happen.

It depends with Roger. There's a lot of guys who say they have no interest in playing on after they start to decline but he doesn't seem to be among them, he just loves playing tennis.

I think what will pull him away from the sport is the desire to spend more time with his family, rather than injuries, a decline, or falling out of love with it. He'll probably still retire at the end of 2016 in my opinion.

It can't be immediately after the Olympics though. It just wouldn't do for Roger's last tournament to be on a South American clay court, I can't think of anything less fitting! Has to be the World Tour Finals if he makes the cut. If not, then Basel, supposing that the calendar remains similar.

I have seen this live at the time and what was really striking to me, even though I knew the stories from before, was how Roger explained he wasn't exactly THAT dedicated to practicing and stuff when he was in his early years. He would show up flat, upset etc...But NOW, there is no way he is missing a practice or showing up not %100.

There is hope for some younger dudes and dudettes out there after all.

I'm just SICK of him being asked about playing "his good friend Stan". Enough. They are professionals.

There are no friends on court when legacies, millions of dollars, and slam titles are at stake. Just stop it.

I agree, great observations. Still, I would not forget that he would want one more slam for the record books. I don't think Roger is the type to throw in the towel before adding another is absolutely out of the question.
