The Tournament:

The Abierto Mexicano de Tenis MIFEL presented by Cinemex will have a total financial commitment of nearly US$800,000, ranking it as the highest in its category in the Americas Region. The hard-court tournament debuted in 2016, with Ivo Karlovic taking home the inaugural title. The event showcases the unique natural beauty of one of Mexico's most important tourist destinations.

About Los Cabos

Los Cabos is a municipality located at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, in the state of Baja California Sur. Mexico's fastest growing resort area offers miles of empty desert and deserted beaches. Laid-back nightlife and old-fashioned fun in the sun is the Cabos' lure.

The population is 287,000 and encompasses the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo (the municipal seat), as well as the Resort Corridor that lies between the two.

The area was remote and rural until the latter 20th century, when the Mexican government began to develop Cabo San Lucas for tourism, which then spread east to the municipal seat. The main draw is the climate and geography, where desert meets the sea, along with sport fishing, resorts and golf. This tourism is by far the main economic activity with over two million visitors per year.

 A record which will almost certainly never be broken: 16 months without winning a match after last beating Federer.
Still, not as bad as Safin, who never won a tournament after winning the AO in '05 (beating Fed in the SFs.) He retired in Nov. 2009. I mean, if we're talking about not capitalizing. At least Kokkinakis has injury excuse.

Taylor Fritz beat Fabio. The American starts to be relevant, once he clinched his first title, seems he he can sustain his better form through the following months.

The final will be between Schwartzman and Fritz.
Neither of them has a HC title to date, Fritz won on grass while Schwartzman on clay only.
