She just announced on Facebook. Says it is her knee. Details to follow.

Her statement from Facebook:

I wanted to let all of my great fans know that unfortunately I am going to have to withdraw from the upcoming WTA events in Montreal and Cincinnati, as well as the US Open. Since March, I have been struggling with my knee and it is just not where I need it to be in order to play at the highest level. My medical team has advised me that I need to take some time off to rest my knee so it heels. I look forward to getting back on the court this fall in Wuhan and Beijing. - LI NA

Defending almost 3000 points the rest of the year, this means she will hand over the #2 ranking to Simona soon and drop down even further by US open.

How much you'll bet she's ready just in time to hit the fall Asian swing.

It would not surprise me if Li retires at the end of this season.I read a report from AP,Li stated she has been struggling with her knee since March.Regardless of her win at the AO this year, her results at RG and Wimbledon were poor. Also she is coachless at present.Age is another factor as well.I could be off the mark here.It will be interesting to see her results in the Asian swing and the rest of the year.

She may reduce the number of tournaments she is playing. But, she won't retire.
Why? Only if she is in the news cycle, she will be able to milk more money out of
the sponsors. She started seeing big money only a couple of years ago and so
would want to maximize whatever she could get out of the sponsors in her remaining
years. But, I am sure she won't win anything big anymore.

^ Li has spoken intermittently about retirement? as I said I may be off the mark,Li is already a wealthy women.I have always been of the opinion that Li dosent seem to have the 'passion' when competing, just a personal observation. Also with this ongoing knee issue,in need of a new coach, age factor? it will be interesting to see how fares when she does return to competition.
