Thanks a great read.

I loved the way Garbine stuck to her game plan in this match.I also admired her composure during the match and especially when she was serving for the match.

One of the most important factor's to me was how Garbine dictated most of the points, stayed aggressive and used her ground strokes down the middle of the court to avoid giving Serena angles.

As John rightfully pointed out...."No Guts,No Glory"

Agreed, although she also threw in some top drawer angled shots on the backhand that reminded me of Monsieur Nalbandian at times. Yeah, Serena was flat... but Garbine played a great match. I wondered if she would hold it together as she closed in the second set but she kept a cool head.

Did you feel the same parallels Kriek identified with the Ivanovic match?

Yes....if my memory serves me correct in that match.Ana controlled the match with her aggressive fhand winners, returning winner's off Serena's second serve and stepping into control as many rallies as possible with her fhand.Ana's serve which at times can be wobbly, held up well in that match.

Terrific piece by Johan. Interesting tips on how to beat a tough opponent, and especially as applied to Muguruza v. Serena yesterday. Proving once again how mental tennis is, too. Be brave enough to upset the rhythm, and camp out in their head. Muguruza was most impressive in that way…she was calm, and stuck to her plan. Of course, Serena was flat, but when she broke back in the 2nd, I thought, "OK, maybe she pulls it all the way back now, and Garbiñe loses her nerve." But the Spaniard refused to stick to the script. As Kriek says, good for Team Muguruza for devising a great game plan against Serena, and especially congratulations to Garbiñe herself for brave enough it off.

And if she loses like this a third time this year, I would really be concerned.
As good of a Champion that she is, I doubt that would happens again, this year.
