I should say ex-referee, but this guy was part of the furniture at Wimbledon for many years.

Nice guy. I think he took over from an old gent called Fred Hoyles, was it? A kind of shrivelled David Niven sort, drinks at the Savoy and all that, chap! Alan Mills seemed like a good referee, for the main part, and he's being suitably modest when he says the referees job is to finish the tournament on time. It's a huge logistical exercise played out in the full media glare, with players and coaches and agents all trying to squeeze a turn that helps them.
