Seems that Caroline is hurt a lot more than we thought according to people around her:

@LynnePlaisance the Achilles tendon, finds it difficult to support her foot! She's staying in London until next week to get more treatment.

Hope she get's well soon.

How is it going with your babe Masha, Vika and other unlucky player? If you know anything then bring the news about it.

Thanks for starting the thread. This tournament has been awful in terms of injuries. Sorry to hear Woz's ankle is worse than initially thought. Vika's knee is better than originally thought. Instead of a tear, she has a bone bruise which should heal in a few weeks. I think she will not miss any of the big HC events. Pova is not injured, as far as I know. I am keeping my fingers crossed no one else falls on the grass. By the second week, there should be an improvement because some of the grass has been worn out near the baseline.

This is increasingly what I am hearing: The grass is too soft. We had a very poor Spring in the UK, with very cold temperatures right up until the start of Wimbledon which meant the grass didn't set as firm as they would like. Supposedly conditions are similar to those of the Olympics where they had similar problems due to the lack of time (though not as many injuries) where the grass was more slippery than normal.

A little of topic - but it's actually nice to see someone who's taken the humour side of things - nice I think:)

Seems the injury is bad for Woz - stays a week longer in London to get her injury treated - hope for the best.

That's too bad. I didn't realize it was so serious, but let us know if you learn anything new.

Really? Isn't she supposed to take part in that #1's celebration ceremony?

Yeah you're right but sometimes it's a gamble to guess what day they mean if you're in the wrong timezone ;). Here is a link to the show you're mentioning it'll start in 1hour and 5 minutes (app.) from time of writing - so I think it's Monday they are returning to Monaco - the Wozzilroy team ;):

she just tweeted this:
Caroline Wozniacki ‏@CaroWozniacki 8m
Hair and makeup done! Excited about the @wta 40 love party! #formernumberones..

No it's just some testing until a little past 15.00 BST until now Caroline, Ana, Maria and Margareth Court and now Martina has been passing the interviewer - so join the show. Here Caroline celebrating 40love:

Carolines remark to Martina:
Woz: “If Martina wants to play with me I would love to play. She has won so many doubles titles, and I haven’t won a doubles match in three years.”

I watched. It was great seeing some players I have not seen in quite a while. The relationship between Martin and Chris is something I hope Serena and Maria can strive for after they have finished playing. They are actually quite alike in many ways. Sorry that Kim, Venus and Steffi could not attend.

I saw it. It was sorta chaotic, but it was worth watching. For me Chrissie Evert stole the show with her dry sense of humour. I was shocked looking at Monica Seles' face. It looked weird to me for some reason. I felt a bit sorry for Jennifer Capriati. I saw that Caroline said something to her at one point, but other than that she was just there but she didn't really seem to be part of the occasion. But that's just my impression of course. Perhaps she's the life of the party once the cameras stop rolling.

And here they are 17 of 21 former #1 and present "1 - minus Graf, Vika, Venus, Kim - what a sight - enjoy:

To clarify who's who I'll just run through:
(L-R back row)Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Margaret Court (not #1), Evonne Goolagong-Cawley, Ana Ivanovic, Lindsay Davenport, Dinara Safina, Jelena Jankovic, Jennifer Capriati, Caroline Wozniacki and Amelie Mauresmo (L-R front row) Tracey Austin, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, Billie Jean King (not #1), Serena Williams, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Justine Henin

Margaret Court and Billie Jean King were among the founders of WTA and "1 was first presented in november 1975 and first #1 was Chris Evert who had a streak of 25 weeks going to and fro with Martina (and Goolagong 2 weeks) scoring an impressive total of 260 weeks as #1 - still she's "only" 3rd after Graf and Martina. But both billie and Margaret have been #1 before the WTA - latest Margaret in 1973 and Billie in 1974. Goolagong has also been #1 before WTA in 1971 - well enough of this diggin :)
