If Murray were to take this French Open and Djokovic never wins in Paris, what match-up would you equate to this particular circumstance? OTTH:

1) Chang over Edberg in '89 final who never got another sniff of a FO title

2) Cash over Lendl in '87 final which was his last real chance at a Wimbledon

3) Bjorn Borg in '75 semi over Laver going after a WCT Final which he never won

4)

1990 French Open: Gomez beating Agassi (But Agassi was able to come back NINE years later to win it)
1998 Australian Open: Korda beating Rios (never won a Slam)
2002 Australian Open: Johannsson beating Safin (But Safin came back three years later to win it)
2004 French Open: Gaudio beating Coria (never really recovered)

Probably can think of some more later. But none would be as big as Murray denying Djokovic. Especially if Djokovic has finally beaten Nadal in the quarters.

How about Kafelnikov over Sampras in the 1996 SF. It was the only time Pete would make the SF at the French Open, and the last time he would make it past the 3R.

^ Not a bad one. Even if Djokovic doesn't win this year I still think he has 2 decent chances at it but arguably none better than right now. After Pete lost that semi you knew that was his one legit chance.

Well, if the case is that Nadal can't possibly win it, then I would be happy for anyone except the Serb to be honest. If Murray won, it would be highly unusual, just imagine all those AO finals and 0 wins, 1 FO final and won it already. That would be a big blow to those who said he is incomplete and that he sucks on clay

I must say, although I think Novak WILL win one. I would be mightily tickled if someone else won this year. This is my order of preference (obviously my first choice shouldn't shock anyone :D)

Federer
Monfils
Nishikori
Djokovic
Tsonga
Murray

I certainly wouldn't be upset if Andy won. Could he end up being the male Sharapova and winning one of each? Surely he's going to win the AO at some point..

... Djokovic would shoot him.

I appreciate you are making a joke, but there would be no hard feelings. Djokovic is pretty graceful in defeat. He would more likely put it on himself that he did not win.

Besides it is not all that unlikely (although pretty unlikely) that Murray will win. I liked what I have seen from Murray since the AO. I actually am starting to warm up to the guy. I think the quarters with Ferrer will be a very interesting match to see where Murray is at on clay.
