A shame injuries plagued him so much the last few years as 30 is relatively young to retire in tennis these days. One of the few players who can claim to have beaten Rafa on clay. A fine player especially on that surface. All the best to him and good to see he wants tennis to remain part of his life.

I actually think he was quite underrated in his day. He had a terrific forehand, on par with some top 15 players. Can hit it with great spin (worked really well on clay) but also flatten it out in a huge way. He actually gave Roger a couple of tough matches in majors. The 5 setter at the US Open (2008) is the one people remember most, but there was also a VERY tough 4 setter at the 2010 Australian Open.

I thought he'd retired years ago. Not being funny, but I did!

I saw him courtside while Donskoy was playing (losing) in St.Petersburg. They kept showing him at critical moments. Will he coach Donskoy now? We shall see.

Andreev was playing some pretty good tennis 5(?) years ago. Don't remember seeing him in any draws for some time.

Is he still Maria Kirilenko's BF? I do remember his USO against Fed.
Hope he does not plan to join in politics. Many retired russian players
run in elections there. Talking of Russian Players, actually Anna Chakvadatze
also announced her retirement recently. I used to like her and at one point
thought she will make it big.

Injuries hampered him bigtime last few years. He dropped to 991 in the rankings so he was probably only playing qualifiers and challengers. 30 is relatively young to retire from men's tennis these days. A shame the injuries proved too much.

He was a top 20 player. Had some good wins, mostly on clay. I remember the final he played against Roger in Gstaad. It was a good match.

Good luck to Igor with his future endeavors.

Do you remember their matches at the USO in '08, and the AO in '10? They were pretty good, too.

Those were crackers alright. He was a very good player when fit and one of the elite few to have beaten Rafa on clay.

Kirilenko is engaged to married to Alex Ovechkin the hockey player. So I don't think so ...

In fact Igor's already Donskoy's coach and I guess he'll continue his "tennis" life beeing a coach
