This is in terms of your personal preference. :)

If somebody would have told me this time last year that two of the four GS's in 2014 would have be won from players outside of the big four I would have laughed. But it happened! This was definitely a unique year, in my opinion, and one to remember. My take on the four GS's:

Australian Open - this has always been my favourite GS in the past, primarily because I, too, am from Melbourne, and I just get immersed in the whole experience. There's something festive in the air for those two weeks at Melbourne Park. I truly enjoyed this tournament. The Wawrinka vs. Djokovic encounter was brilliant, and it was so great to see Stan get up and win the whole thing. I remember giving him no chances against Nadal because they had met 12 times prior and Stan hadn't even taken a set! Unfortunately, the final wasn't at a really 'high quality' (obviously because of Nadal's injury), but it was very refreshing to see someone else other than the big four hold up the trophy.

French Open - historically, I've never been too fond of this GS just because of its one-sidedness. It was a good tournament, I guess, but yeah, nothing too exciting. I quite liked the final, and, contrary to popular belief, Nadal is awesome to watch on the dirt.

Wimbledon - this was an amazing tournament! Krygois being the highlight, knocking out Nadal and taking the tennis world by surprise. He was an absolute freak and I won't forget staying up until 3-4.00am watching this young champion give it his all. Oh, and that epic 5-setter final was amazing stuff too. The best Wimbledon final since 2008. And just an awesomely fun tournament in general.

US Open - well, this was a shock. I always remember saying to myself 'imagine a GS final between two players that doesn't feature Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, or Murray?'. And it happened! But I certainly didn't expect Cilic vs. Nishikori! :p A very odd final, but Cilic deserved it. He GOATED in the second week and was simply unstoppable. In saying that, everything still felt rather anti-climatic and just weird. Nadal's exclusion didn't help either. But yeah, I'd say it's more of an interesting GS than an entertaining one.

Anyway, this is how I would rank them:

Wimbledon
Australian Open
US Open
French Open

How about you? :D

Wimbledon had a lot of new stuff, milos in a semi, sir grigor wasting murray, Federer making a final and going to 5sets at 32yrs old. nick kygrios bursting through and borna coric losing in the 1st rd qualifying.

Wimbledon was probably the best slam this year mostly due to the final which was a great one. But also Kyrgios probably had the 2nd biggest upset of the year (I'd have Stan at AO over Nole as #1). The other 3 finals were either average (RG) or bad (AO for obvious reasons, and the USO was one way traffic). If I was to rank them this year it'd go:

Wimbledon
AO
RG
USO (not having Nadal takes something away from the tournament and the final was awful and only one of the semis was mildly competitive).

There were new faces, so this was biggest thing. Although Oz was just weird and horrible, it made a change to see a new man with a cup.

Paris was extraordinary because we saw that even in his worst season on clay in ten years, the depth of Rafa's will is unfathomable. He plumbs depths dark and uncharted. And of course, winning a major every season for ten years is a new level of consistency. So with all the narrative attached, this was a great achievement this year.

Nole pulled it together at Wimbledon, despite his best efforts not to. Great win for him before the wedding. Roger defied age this year and strolled through the draw. I actually enjoyed Nick, as I said at the time, because he really was that good. He gave us another option for the future.

The USO was the strangest one, given how the semis panned out. It's maybe appreciated more for the newness of the faces than for the quality of the tennis, but I think most of us are gonna watch these men closely and see how they go.

It was a good year for the slams. Next year should follow its example and give us more variety, and upsets...

Well my favorite Grand Slam has always been Roland Garos, clay is also my favorite surface as I was taught on the red dirt.To me wining Roland Garos is the hardest of all the Grand Slams. For two weeks,it is a surface that test's a player's fitness, endurance and mental strength.I have been privileged to watch live at Roland Garos, the world's greatest clay courter,Rafa Nadal, over many years, one has to watch Nadal live at Roland Garos to appreciate his game on clay.

My second choice would be Wimbledon 'the home of tennis'

My third choice would be the 'Happy Slam' the Australian Open,I have attended this tournament many times over the years, watched great champions winning the title in both the men's and women's,Rod Laver Arena is a great venue to watch live tennis, you get a great view, even if you are up higher, the players dont look like 'ants' at all.

Last but not least the USO,thank goodness a roof will be built in this venue.I have always referred to the USO as the 'rock and roll Grand Slam',Arthur Ashe stadium is enormous, still to get good viewing, you dont want to be in the 'bleachers',if you do,you might as well just stay home and watch it on TV.

Wimbledon was the best followed by the Australian Open despite the weird final (and even that was at least dramatic, for better or worse). I don't remember too many great matches at the FO so it seemed kinda business as usual for the most part. Don't know whether to rank it ahead of the US Open.

To me other than Wimbledon, I would like to forget this years slams ASAP. Kei was very fun to watch at the USO, but it was overall not a great tourney with few great matches. The F.O. final was ugly even before Novak puked. The AO was my second favorite I guess. Stan played out of his mind, which was fun, but overall I could do with forgetting it. It seemed a fitting end to a weak year to have Novak win the WTF on a withdrawal...

Enjoy my negative commentary.
