The Tournament:

Many of the WTA's stars venture to Australia for the Hobart International to get their games in gear the week before the start of the season's first Grand Slam - the Australian Open.

The tournament is held at the Hobart International Tennis Centre. The Hobart International Tennis Centre has 6 plexicushion hardcourts, 7 synthetic grass courts, and 5 clay courts, all of which are of top international standard. The centre also features a pro shop, bar and clubhouse with over 800 members.

About Hobart

Hobart, capital and most populated city of Australia's island state of Tasmania, sits on the River Derwent. At its fashionable Salamanca Place, old sandstone warehouses host galleries and cafes. Nearby is Battery Point, a historic district with narrow lanes and colonial-era cottages. The city's backdrop is 1,270m-high Mount Wellington, with sweeping views, plus hiking and cycling trails.

Population: 221,000

Elise Mertens made history at the tournament last year, defending her singles title to become the first dual winner in the tournament's history. She's not back this year.

Alizé Cornet is the only previous winner in the field.

I think we have reached a point of time where seeding does not have any meaning in WTA. May be they should be innovative and get rid of the whole concept of seeding in WTA.

I've never really been a Belinda fan. She gets way too huffy when she can't outsmart her opponent the way Hingis could.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova d. Belinda Bencic 7-6(2) 4-6 6-2
Sofia Kenin d. Alize Cornet 6-2 6-4

Have you seen much of Kenin @kskate2?
A little bit last year when she played Fed Cup. She lost her matches, but she played well. Lots of potential. Like most youngsters, needs some maturity and a killer instinct
