Stan has now won their last three matches, bringing the H2H to 8-7 in favor of Andy. Furthermore, Stan has not lost a set to Andy in those three matches. Over the last two years, Stan has won two Slams and one Masters, Andy no Slams and two Masters. So at least over the last two years, Stan has probably been the better player even if Andy has had a higher winning percentage and is ranked higher this year.

So what say you? Is Stan now the better player?

He is definitely the one who steps up his game during important moments more than Andy nowadays and is not afraid of playing the big 3.

Also I think Djoker, Federer or Nadal would be more wary of playing Wawrinka in a GS final than Andy.

Its a shame really Andy should achieve more with the game he has . ( Hopefully he wins atleast one more Wimbledon )

What's the question? Now or overall?

Now I would say depends on the day and Stan's mood.

Overall I would say Stan has a long way to go before he replaces Andy in the uh ever popular ahem "Big Four". cough cough.

Stan is just too much "on/off switch" player to even come close to Andy ;)

In last 2 years his top lvl is another story but career vise Andy is just better... by far ;)

I meant now. I realize that Andy is a long way ahead of Stan. Even if Stan won another Slam, Andy's career is better. Two more and it would be hard not to give Stan the nod.

But the stats do point to Stan being the better player over the last two years.

Stan has gold in double not in single. Let's see if he can catch gold in single in Rio. If so he'll be better than Muzza

You're the first person I've ever seen use an Olympic medal as a serious criteria for tennis greatness.

When all is said and and done, the Olympics is somewhere below a Slam, WTF, and Masters in terms of historical importance. It is more unique, but that's about all.

I would actually put it above a Masters, just for the fact that it's only played once every four years and extremely hard to get.

He's definitely ahead in terms of competing for slams.

Olympic gold I would have higher than a Slam,4 to be won in one year.Olympic gold one in 4 years,so harder to win Olympics.Stan been playing very well @ times, but Murray won a lot more prize money.Stans is older than Murray so time will tell who's where.Murray been in more slam finals & Stans way behind in masters or in finals.

Olympic gold isn't even higher than a 250 at the mo, no points next year! :snicker

Seriously, it doesn't compare with a slam. Not even "the fifth slam." :lolz:

I think Stan is less consistent than Andy but he's a better bet to play at a higher level, right now. Andy isn't a threat to win a major so long as his issues continue but Stan could make things happen when you least expect it...

Murray reverts back to the things that make him his own opponent..the bitch fest/mumble tank, the cross court only hook forehand, weak second server...

but his movement (despite his court position), strategic acumen, and competitive mentality still put him slightly ahead IMO..

Overall he is more dependable week in week out than Stan.

Thx on the agree El Dude, winning a Olympic gold for your country is the highest honor anyone can do.This is not about winning 2000 tennis points,it's about how long you have a chance to win one.
some people just don't think about things & what thay are.If say Roger wins a Olympic gold in 2016 I'd be happy for him,& he might do so.
all the best.

Agree with El Dude, Stan is the better player form wise, but for overall career Murray wins it.

Will be interesting to see how Murray handles the pressure of having to win a Davis Cup, by that I mean they're relying on him getting maximum points in his matches. Even though he's now won some Grand Slams he does seem to be reverting back to talking to his corner and losing concentration a bit more than under Lendl for example.
