The Tournament:

The Hall of Fame Championships is an international tennis tournament that has been held every year in July since 1976 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.

The tournament is the only event played on grass courts outside of Europe, and it offers the only opportunity to see professional men's tennis in the Northeast prior to the US Open. The Tennis Hall of Fame Inductions coincides with the tournament.

3 people going into the Hall of Fame on Saturday.

  • YEVGENY KAFELNIKOV
  • LI NA
  • MARY PIERCE
Deserving?
What they have in common is the number of GS titles. Two for each of them on different surfaces: one on clay and one HC.
Apparently that is what it takes to get into HOF.

Yeah, thinking the same. Chang and Roddick got in with one, so I think two is a safe bet going forward.

Dr Ivo went down in the opening round to a typical clay courter, Andreozzi, who hasn't done much in his career even on clay, never mind on grass.

Dr Ivo must be zoning in on retirement. Is he the oldest player in the Top 100?

I'd be surprised if anyone but Isner won this. Thompson and Mannarino join Steve Johnson on the bus out of Newport.

Karlovic lost to Guido Andreozzi of Argentina. Must be some terrible grass in Newport. ;)

Isner owns this tournament, 4th title already. This Bublik guy is doing underarm serves in every match.
