Hingis was playing WTT last night for the Washington Kastles. Looked very good. And there's a nice pix of her at the Wimby ball the other night.

I hate to admit it, but the little black widow from Switzerland was always a favorite of mine. :)

Same here, once Steffi Graf retired. I met her briefly at the Liverpool Open a few years ago, unfortunately I had to turn down autograph requests.

It can get to be a bore, no? LOL

Perhaps the Swiss Miss took over the task for you. :snigger

Yeah, getting constantly pestered by these tennis legends is a real chore at times.

You'd wanna be careful with the Swiss man-eater, apparently. She'd want more than an autograph!

No mention of controversial issues in Hingis's past? I'm not inclined to point fingers, and I don't much care about the choices she's made, good or bad. However, there are people around here that will at other players. So I'm just wondering: No complaints about Hingis, or the controversial ending to her career?

I think if she'd been banned for steroids or any other PED rather than recreational drugs, she wouldn't be in the hall of fame... but as it wasn't PEDs, I think she's OK going in.

Martina Hingis tops the bill and will be joined by Thelma Coyne Long, Cliff Drysdale, Charlie Pasarell and Ion Tiriac for the induction.

For those of you not in the know I will quote from Wiki:

"At the Australian Championships, Long won singles titles in 1952 and 1954 and was a singles finalist in 1940, 1951, 1955 and 1956. In women's doubles, she won ten titles with Nancye Wynne Bolton (1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1952) and two titles with Mary Bevis Hawton (1956 and 1958). Long was a women's doubles finalist with Bolton in 1946 and 1950. She won mixed doubles titles in 1951, 1952 and 1955 with George Worthington and in 1954 with Rex Hartwig. She was a mixed doubles finalist in 1948 with Bill Sidwell.
At Wimbledon, Long was a women's doubles finalist in 1957 with Hawton and a mixed doubles finalist in 1952 with Enrique Morea. At the age of 52, Long teamed with Lorraine Coghlan Robinson to lose in the first round of women's doubles at Wimbledon in 1971.
At the French Championships, Long was a women's doubles finalist in 1958 with Hawton, won the mixed doubles title in 1956 with Luis Ayala, and was a mixed doubles finalist in 1951 with Mervyn Rose."

In short, she was women's tennis legacy from Down Under before Miss Smith arrived in 1960.
