Pick which do you think was the greatest 3 set match played on the ATP Tour. Excluding Olympics otherwise Federer-Delpo would have won hands down

People might point out to the Madrid semi in 2009 but I remember the quality in that match wasnt really that high. There might be many matches before my time but to me its the Chennai semi in 2008 between Nadal and Moya. I only started watching closely from 2005 but from then on I cant think of any better match

Well, I see why you have to leave out the Olympics, since you stipulated ATP, but, yes, I think you'd get most to agree that that one was amazing. I wouldn't actually agree that Madrid SF 09 wasn't that high…though you could probably the drama was higher. I'd have to look back at the Chennai match you mention. What about Nadal - Djokovic 2008 at Queens? It only went two, but they were tight and it was an exciting match.

I reckon this has to be right up there as one of the best.

That's some weak competition right there.

Thr Sampras-Rafter match where Pete served the ball THROUGH Rafter's racket was pretty amazing.

Nadal-Djokovic in Madrid 2009 and Hamburg 2010.
Nadal-Murray at the WTF 2010.
Nalbandian-Federer Rome 2006.
Djokovic-Murray Rome 2011.

Those stick out to me off the top of my head, though I'm sure I'm missing a ton.

Nadal v Davydenko, Rome 2007 and same pairing in Shanghai 2006. Federer v Nadal, Shanghai 2006 was also an entertaining close 2 set match.

I guess I'm showing my age, but just going back to "The Longest Day" in tennis is enough for me; '84 USO! Excluding the women's final w/ Navr. & Evert which went the limit, a vet match preceeded everything; Smith and Newcombe! That went into Lendl over Cash in 5 and McEnroe outlasting Connors going into the night! :violins:

Read the OP: this is about best-of-3 set matches.

The 2 Andy matches stick out for me. I didn't get the result I wanted in either match but they were great viewing.
