Andy Murray spearheaded a Great Britain victory over Belgium to clinch their first Davis Cup title in 79 years.

Fred Perry led Team GB to their last title in 1936. Murray defeated David Goffin 6-3 7-5 6-3 to clinch the title in Ghent.

The British team won the tie 3-1 overall, with Murray picking up two singles wins (vs Goffin and Ruben Bemelmans) and a doubles win with his older brother Jamie on Saturday. Britain lost one match with Goffin beating Kyle Edmund on the opening day.

Davis Cup captain Leon Smith stated: “It is amazing, as good a feeling as I could imagine. Andy has shown himself to be an absolute superstar.”

Amazing match point.

Yeah, pretty incredible. Goffin did everything right. That lob was amazing.

I'm happy for Murray and Great Britain.  This was a tremendous effort from Murray during Davis Cup all year and let's see if it helps kick start his 2016 season.  Murray has done wonders for British tennis; a Wimbledon, a Gold medal and now a Davis Cup.

Murray saw the chance for GB and he committed himself to it, much like Roger did last year for Switzerland.  And that's no crack...I'm admiring of opportunism.  The best see a door open and bust through it.  And it may well kick-start his year.  He rode the Olympic gold medal to the USO title.
