The Tournament:

The Hungarian Open is a new ATP event that will feature annually on the calendar during April. The ATP 250 tournament will be played on outdoor red clay in Budapest, the capital city. It is replacing the Bucharest Open on the tour.

The National Training Centre will host the event. The facility is also the home of the Hungarian National Teams and the Hungarian Tennis Association and has organised several international competitions, including the Junior Fed Cup and Davis Cup in 2016.

About Budapest

Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is bisected by the River Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views.

Budapest is an Alpha- global city, with strengths in arts, commerce, design, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, services, research, and tourism.

Its business district hosts the Budapest Stock Exchange and the headquarters of the largest national and international banks and companies. Budapest is a leading R&D and financial centre in Central and Eastern Europe, the city has a gross metropolitan product more than $100 billion in 2015, thereby the city is among the Top 100 GDP performing cities in the world and making it one of the largest regional economies in the European Union.

I guess this is the weirdest draw ever... it has more than a few quality players, but it is strange. Maybe it is the lack of clay court specialists.
