The mixed doubles event has begun. Here are some interesting pairs, not necessarily the top
seeds.

1. Sania Mirza and Bruno Soares (the top dogs)
2. Mike Bryan and BM Sands (the bottom dogs, i.e, #2 seeds)
3. Bob Bryan and Caroline Garcia
4. Martina Hingis and Leander Paes
5. Daniel Nestor and Kristina Malendovic
6. Nenadn Zimonjic and Elena Vesnina
7. Alice Lim and Jeremy Chardy (I think this is BF, GF Combo).

Eugene was in it along with Mirni. Just like in singles, she went out in the first round itself.
But, this time at least to #2 seed.

Mirza/Souraes lost the fist set badly. Might be shown the door early.

Sania Mirza/Bruno Soares shown the door in straight sets right in the opening match. Their partnership is not clicking. Sania should search for a different partner.

I couldn't understand how they made Hingis and Paes the #8 seed! How many titles and years do they have to play? They're the AO champs for Gawd-sake! - :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

Vesnina/Zimo are out (they were the 3 seed), and well as Hlavackova/Lopez (they were the 4). Bryan/Mattek-Sands the only one of the Top 4 seeds to survive today.

Yes, but top seeds falling down is quite common in mixed doubles. The seeding does not mean much as it is obtained by simply adding the rankings of the two individual players.

Also, mixed doubles are usually won by the pair that has a good woman player. So, after considering today's upsets, I think the event will be won by either Hingis and Paes or
Kristina and Nestor.

Bob Bryan and Caroline Garcia, seeded #5, goes out in the 1st round. So, 4 of top 5 seeds have gone out in 1st round.

Just makes Hingis' life easier!  :dodgy: :popcorn

Hingis and Paes followed the way of other seeds and exited.

BTW, Chardy and ALice withdrew before the event began. So, only two pairs are left
from my interesting pairs list. They are Mike Bryan & Bethany MS and Nestor and Kristina. Incidentally, these two have a QF showdown (assuming Kristina and Nestor get there).
As Krisitina is a better player than BMS and as mixed doubles tend to be decided by
the better female player, I think Nestor and Kristina will win that QF Showdown.
After that it is their event to lose as there is virtually no serious competition left.

Kristina and Nestor have also bowed out in the 2nd round.

Right now only 2 seeds are left.

This event now should (in theory) be a cake walk for M. Bryan and Bethany M-S.

Bethanie is also still in womens dubs with Lucie - they will play their semi tomorrow. But that means she could own 3 Slam titles this season when the French is over and done with.

It is over, congratulations to BMS and Mike Bryan.

Bob and Mike Bryan have an agreement that if any one of them wins a mixed doubles, they split the money between them. Nice agreement.

Yep - her and Lucie. It was the first time they ever played together, and they took the title. They also have won Stutgart this year, and are now in the semis here.
