The June episode of HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel has a segment on Frances Tiafoe that is worth a watch. I didn't know about his biography - very interesting and impressive.
The short version is that his family fled Sierra Leone and his father got a job at a junior training court. Frances watched the training and eventually started practicing on his own, then getting guidance. His family didn't have the money to train him but he was very dedicated and eventually got outside assistance. But his story also puts into context his rather jerky serves and strikes - he was pretty much self-taught, at least at the beginning. Hard not to root for the kid.
