What do you have for breakfast? Come on, let me in! I'm making breakfast now.

Porridge, with apple sliced thinly into it, some salt and butter added, then cinnamon sprinkled on top, before I pour some maple syrup on it when it's in the bowl.

Mniam mniam!

Washed down with a cup of ginger tea... :D

did you just start a "food" thread? wow. :) sounds good, btw.

as for breakfast? well, i'll have to admit that I basically have the same. every. day. and i love it! my mega-muesli, if you will: i start with oatmeal and/or some other grains (millet, spelt, flax...), add a little hot water to soak it up a tad. then half a banana and, depending on season, other fried, fresh or dried. then a Schneekoppe Muesli mix, with more grains and flakes, raisins and other fruit. then, a cup of low-fat (but Not no-fat! yuck!) yogurt. sweeten it with a small spoon of jam. then, about 1 tblspoon of some crunchier, sugary, chocolaty cereal, whatever we got. unless we got cookies or brownies. then, a couple of crumbs of those :D

so, with a few variations here and there, that's been my breakfast for the past 6 years or so. exceptions are only rare big weekend breakfasts, and long run days (all the fiber in the usual breakfast would mean i'd need at least 2-3 hours before feeling like a run. so on long run days, it's more like toasted bread, with a little butter and salt or jam; the shorter runs, i do before breakfast, on something like half a banana and fruit/sports drinks).

is that kind of consistency sad? maybe. is it worthy of an 78 year old retiree? probably. but it's healthy, yummy, and i don't have to start my day with decisions of any sort ;)

That's almost my old breakfast! Muesli and granola, with fruit and yoghurt, and maybe other grains and raisins, but then came winter last year we switched to the old podge, oatmeal which we ground down ourselves. It's great for winter...and it's always winter! :)

I can barely stomach breakfast. I run every morning and need something light. Coffee, then coffee, and maybe a half banana, or a shake (banana, oj, wheat germ, yogurt, a few fruits.) But then I'm always starving for lunch. That's my big meal, usually.

Ironically, when I have a shoot day, I like a breakfast burrito...egg, veg, cheese, meat, tabasco, everything. Even if it's 6am. And, when I'm in Germany, if I've run first, I really love the German breakfast. Meats, cheeses, grainy breads, fruit and yogurt. Basically, I eat like a bird, at breakfast, if my day is light, or I eat like a truck driver, if I have a heavy day.

OK, breakfast is a little boring. Let's work our way up to the big event. (Dinner is coming...!)

Brunch vs. Lunch

I say lunch. I hate eggs, and brunch is too much about eggs. And waffles and pancakes. That's too much sugar. I say a proper midday meal...Lunch!

I am always up early so it is always a breakfast for me and never a brunch, so lunch it is.
But lunches are my most boring meals since I am at work and do not have enough time to really enjoy it. Sometimes it is leftovers from last nights dinner, other times I step out to go to the Sushi place nearby, or the Turkish restaurant next door. Either way, I have to be back to work quick, so...
Dinners, on the other hand...:p

good question. to be honest, i love breakfast so much, i absolutely adore the idea of brunch :D

sunday would be: mini-breakfast (pre-run energy), then post-run huge brunch :)

I couldn't start a day without breakfast! My bro can do that - he's ten a day for coffee and starts the day with a mug of coffee and nothing more. I'd faint by 11 o'clock. I need something inside (so strong).

For lunch, it's usually light. Slice of salmon on some black bread, with half a cucumber. Or a fried egg with some mushrooms, or a bowl of mushroom soup.

The only time I snack between meals is chocolate or cakes with my tea or coffee. I eat a lot of sweet things, but I still have the same waistband I had twenty years ago: 32 inch waist. I burn it up! I exercise and I have a natural nervous energy that speeds up the metabolism...

I have three normal breakfast that I switch between. Bagel and creamchesse, Fruit smoothie, and granola with yogurt. On the brunch side, yesturday I went out and got a variation on eggs bendict, with corn bread type base, pulled pork, and of course, poached eggs and holandaise. Delicious!

For breakfast, I go between 2 menu's.
1. Fresh melon slices and a string cheese stick
2. Egg white omelet w/ goat cheese, tomatoes and salsa & slice of whole wheat toast

I always start with fresh fruit and either yogurt with honey and some granola or a bread item with cheese or peanut butter. Coffee is consumed.

Now, when I was in Ireland a few years back, I had the full Irish breakfast with a pint of the black stuff, sometimes two! :)
