For all the crap the USO gets for not having a roof, why do people not complain that RG doesn't have flood lights. There are 5 and a half hours left to play 4 matches on 2 courts.

Yeah I brought this up in some thread. Pretty puzzling. Moxie had an explanation, but it was still odd (it's not her fault, it's the tournament's fault, to be clear).

Maybe Flood Lights would spoil the looks of the City of Lights :snigger

I like the Eiffel Tower--so maybe the City of Lights doesn't want to admit it needs Flood Lights!

This is one reason why RG is my least-favourite GS. Not having lights at a major just seems silly, especially if you've got rain delaying you throughout the morning and afternoon. There is also no roof on at least one of the courts...

Besides, clay under the lights looks awesome. But maybe it's tradition of something.

It's my favorite slam, but no lights in plain stoooopid. It's not like Ashe and a roof where you are talking about multi-hundred-million dollar change. Put up a light pole!

I would imagine the reason they don't have flood lights is because RG is surrounded by a residential area. It's why they don't have night sessions either.

the French open site is being redeveloped though isn't it ?..think so, I think a roof is part of the plans,

everytime I see the flags fluttering all along the top of the stand I think I'm going to miss that effervescent and lovely vista when the redevelopment begins..but that's just tough. needs to happen.

I think there will be a roof in 2018 or something. Permits are there and everything.

The Roland Garros site is by far the smallest of the slams. I think the expansion plans were delayed due to local residents raising concerns. It's not that different to Wimbledon in that regard. It's doubtful that RG or Wimbledon will ever have night matches. I know SW19 have to stop play on centre court no later than 11pm due to council rules.

I'm with you regarding the flags. I love that sight.

To be fair 11 o'clock shut off and lights would be a huge improvement. Even if they had an earlier curfew, the lights would help visability during the last hour to hour and a half of play.

One of the reasons that RG and Wimbledon aren't my two favorite Slams. I love night matches!
