Johnson, playing in his first ATP final proved to be stern opposition. The American took the first set 6-4 behind a solid serve and aggressive tennis.
There were 3 early breaks in the second set, with Ferrer emerging in the driving seat to hold on and take the match into a deciding set.
The final set saw several momentum swings with both players having opportunities to take a strangehold on the match, but it wasn’t until Ferrer made a crucial breakthrough with a break at 5-5 that the deadlock was broken.
