I just stumbled across a surprising stat. Roger Federer's ace% (11.6) this year is the best of his career, just edging 2008 (11.3).

Check out his ace % over the last few years, going back to 2012: 10.7%, 8.2%, 10.3%, 11.6%

You can see right there how a major factor in his declined play in 2013 was a drop in his serve, perhaps due to his lingering back injury. I know he has made other adjustments, but I think the serve is a big factor.

I'm also thinking this means that his overall game in 2015 is a hair below 2014, as he has very similar results but a superior serve - in other words, he's relying more on his serve than he did last year. But this is pretty minor.

The BP conversion rate of Fed is the stat that is killing him the last few years.

^ Sadly yup. The BP conversion is shockingly poor.
