RE: What do you expect from Roger Federer in 2014?

Good news, it's not Annacones fault but either Roger isn't listening or Annacone wasn't telling him much. Annacone got him to play more aggressive at the end of 2010 and in 2011 but Roger obviously didn't have good results overall with Paul. And now that things are rock bottom it's a good time to make a change.

We figured it was coming, but now it's official. I wonder if he has someone in mind to be his new coach, or will he go solo for a while?

"Well good luck Roger! I don't see good things, but who knows!"

Good.
I think this was coming for quite some time.
It wasn't going anywhere lately.
Who would be the next coach?

Yes, one or the other, or both, but relationships like this can get stale and run out of usefulness. It seemed clear that it's time.

Me, too. But who in the world? I would think a multi-slam winner who played into his 30s, but there aren't really any (not already taken) who would be a personality fit, or that are available to do it. There aren't that many people in the world that Roger is likely to respect input from.

Not totally surprising, like most said. Roger either needed an additional voice, or a different voice all together. I guess he chose the latter. Or maybe he will go solo for a while...I am curious if he has anyone in mind. I would call Pete...chat a bit.

I'd love if it was Connors. All Roger can really use from a coach right now is someone not afraid to tell it like it is, someone to rile him up and get the fire lit under him again. That's the main thing that's missing, he didn't forget how to hit a tennis ball to the point that nobodies should be dominating him at his 2 best slams.

It will be hard to match his 2012 results - #1 ranking and Wimbledon title. Annacone delivered. Plus he had a 26 match winning streak from late 2011 to early 2012.

Not sure what to make of the decision. Probably it shows Roger still cares and wants another grand slam? Or he just wants to go solo and make a final run? He will be 33 next year, I am feeling this came a little late.

Roger had 1 slam win in 3+ years with Annacone. Not necessarily his fault (in fact it isn't) but that's not really delivering if you have Roger's standards.

I think Connors could be perfect, at least for the short-term. (Who knows why it didn't work with Sharapova, but at least he's willing.) Few others have had such a winning career and have played well into their 30s. Roger needs a peer, and someone who has 'been there,' at this point, IMO.

He did, but I think that relationship stopped working for Roger. He needs someone who can see him through these now nearly unchartered waters, of being a Great in his 30s. Connors has been there.

Probably the best thing right now. If he really wants to make a final push before hanging it up a new coach would bring a new voice and a new energy if nothing else.
