Federer 2016 schedule - skips clay season

He announced his schedule on twitter I read. Only 16 tourney's with only one clay event: RG.

While I expect that to change and think he'll play at least one tune up clay event, I don't really mind it if he only played at RG.

Me too! By the way I think this is really smart from him. Now the tourneys at Rome and Monte Carlo will be trying to induce him to come and play at their tournament for his pre-RG clay acclimatisation

Good idea.  Roger is clearly targeting Wimbledon and possibly the Olympics too by taking a long break from Indian Wells until RG.  And he can always take a wildcard and play in one of the tournaments which is what I expect he will do at Madrid or Rome.  Had Roger done well at Monte Carlo, Madrid and RG last year he would've potentially overplayed and that might have hurt him for Wimbledon and USO last year.  Those should be his main targets right now because AO and RG are at best a long shot for him at this point.
