I wouldn't be shocked with either making it to very top. But I guess we should have learned by now that it is very very hard to predict those things. Given that both are very young (by the looks I could easily five FAA 16 or even less), obviously they can go up and down a lot. So I guess that I am bound to see they get in a rough patch for a month or so and people come and say that they will "never" be nothing...

As I posted in the tournament thread, yesterday I watch a (almost) full match of FAA for the first time. I was positively impressed. He seems to have a fluid, beautiful all around game. He got out of jail with his serve a lot of times. But it was a match full of errors from both sides (which is understandable). Shapovalov right now is more mature, and seems to have a higher ceiling. But, if you take possible injuries into account (as the OP does), than I can see the sense in the prediction. One thing I remember is that Federer has chosen FAA to be his hitting partner in this pre-season. I guess he knows what his doing.

I agree with everything you say, @mrzz, except ceiling. I think FAA's ceiling is as high as Shapo's: both have #1 potential. But Shapo has a lower floor mostly because he's already made the top 50. I do also worry about FAA's heart condition. But in my mind, these two Canadians have the highest upside of anyone on tour.

I meant Shapo has a higher floor.

I guess I missused the term "ceiling". What I meant is that right now Shapovalov peak play is higher. By watching both play or by checking their results achieved so far, Shapovalov has shown top 10 level occasionally, FAA still hasn't. I guess he will at some point, but not so far.

OK, yes, of course. I think of floor and ceiling as having to do with potential, not what they can do right now. But definitely Shapo has shown more - but he's also 16 months older.

Very difficult to predict this early on ceilings and capabilities. They will compete with others who's development is unknown as well.
What we know for know, is that in their junior stage, they were top notch. Both won GS in juniors, Denis is the youngest in the top 50 at the moment, and Felix is the top ranked youngest in the first 200. That does not mean others may not develop further than them.
As a Canadian, I am very happy to have this prospect.

I predict you will be correct. Shapo's advantage is being a lefty and shorter. But from what I've seen of Auger-Aliassime he's got a more diverse game. Dare I say it - almost Federer-like except for the 2-handed backhand...
