anyone here recall watching this great final?

I do!

Unfortunately we (adelaide) missed most of the first set as It was screened here in progress at 5-2 Martina leading in the first set to which she won the game.

Then Chris was able to get back into the match by pinning Navratilova to the baseline. There was a long, key game i think at 3-2 or 4-2 in the second set with Evert serving where lo and behold she served an ace to save one of the break-points !!!

Third and final set, Martina led by 3-1 before Chris fought back winning the last 5 games and winning her well deserved 7th French in style.

It was to be her final Grand Slam win.

I recall watching the match as well--was biting my nails as I wanted Chrissie to win so badly. She was the queen of the clay, without doubt.

Good match. The 85 final was probably even bigger for Chris as she'd been getting beaten like a drum by Nav for three years and been spanked in the 84 final.

This was the golden era of women's tennis. You always knew that the cream would rise to the top by the end of the tournament, whether that was Navratilova, Evert, Graf, and later Seles. It really sucks that the WTA has gone into the crappers and random players like Magda Linette are making slam semifinals.
