Does anyone else get tired of the analyses of the state of mind/psyche of top pros? Most recently I've seen that about Djokovic. Today, I kid you not, there were dueling hypotheses: 1) The fact that Novak broke his racket in anger during the tiebreak was a good thing because it showed he was into it and he channels his frustration that way (Tenns.com article) or 2)It was a bad sign that he showed anger when he couldn't afford to do so, i.e., in a tiebreaker. That shows he's still fragile/not where he needs to be (Tennis Channel--I believe Paul Annacone) No one knows, except those closest to him, what's in Novak's head, so I just think it's people needed to fill the airtime/turn in a story.

That's how they earn money by analysing every single detail they see.

LOL I'm afraid you're right .

As for his smashing the racket, even Nole doesn't know what to say. He says it sometimes helps him, other times it doesn't.

I think there is a fine each time they do that, but for someone who gives more than 2 million Euros a year to charity, I guess the fines are not a problem

That's an incredible statistic about Novak's charitable giving. Just curious how you know--is it published through his foundation?

Tennis matches are long, and commentators have a lot of air time to fill. That being said, there is nothing more mysterious than what is going on with Novak Djokovic, at the moment. You can complain about the arm-chair analysis, but everyone, frankly, is curious.

His wife Jelena answered that question among others in an interview couple of weeks ago.

I've read an interview with Vajda yesterday (link is bellow if you want to read it google translated from Serbian) and something related to the topic came back to my mind. In the early 90s, I watched a match between Vajda and Becker and the commentators kept repeating two things for the duration of the match how Vajda knows tennis better than anyone, but Becker knows how to win a match better than anyone. You have no idea in how many ways this can be said.

When I read in 2006 that Nole's new coach is Vajda, I instantly remembered that match and later I saw that his face didn't change at all since. Funny enough the one who knew how to win the match later joined the team after being recommended by the one who knows tennis.

So Novak is at 75/80%, then my impressions have not been deceiving.

Let's hope things will be going in the right direction for Wimbledon and the US Open, I think he def has a really good chance at those two slams. RG will be tricky I guess.

I agree that it is all ultimately a mystery, but disagree that it isn't interesting to speculate. In fact, as Moxie said, that is one of the biggest--if not the biggest--question on tour: WTF is up with Novak? And yeah, there is a huge psychological component.

For instance, with each Slam the possibility of him winning another becomes less and less. Slowly his confidence is further eroded; the thought "I don't know if I can ever win another" is rather difficult to dispel and must grow stronger and stronger. On the other hand, if he does manage to win another then look out, he could win a bunch more. In other words, it is my view that Novak either wins 0 more or 3+ more...1-2 is more unlikely.

And all of that is psychological in nature.
