It is an interesting choice by Bernie Tomic to enter this clay event. I am curious to see how he will do here as he is the top seed.

I'm feeling Verdasco. Potential SF with F. Lopez, I think, with Fernando the more clay-courter in that one, if it happens. Lots of Spaniards entered, not surprisingly.

Yes. His best results came on grass and HC that is why I am surprised to see him playing here on clay.

Maybe they offered him some extra money?

I don't think he can do it again, but I'll cheer for Victor Estrella Burgos to win.

That would be a nice Cinderella run for him. He's had a great late-career, for a journeyman. I like the guy.

Victor Estrella Burgos navigated his first round defeating G,Pella 6-4, 6-4 . He went all the way last year defeating Feliciano Lopez in the final.

He seems to be happy, enjoying life kind of guy. I like him too.

Bernie wins his first match here in 3 sets.

Nice to see defending champion Victor Estrella Burgos having another nice run at Quito. He won last year's tournament.

Great job Victor!!

Was Feliciano just tired or did he injure himself? Hopefully nothing bad.
